Phagocytosis was assessed as mentioned above. Data are expressed as the mean + standard deviation three replicates from a representative experiment. (b) Effect of combinations of Rosa damascena and Poria cocos extracts on phagocytosis. THP-1 cells were treated with PMA, Rosa damascena extract (50 μg/mL) alone or combined with Poria cocos extract (5 or 10 μg/mL) for 20 h. Phagocytosis was assessed as described above. Data are expressed as the mean + standard deviation three replicates from a representative experiment. (c) Effect of Cytochalasin D[12] and piceatannol[13] on phagocytosis. Cells were treated as above but with 10 μg/mL of both extracts. Cytochalasin D and piceatannol were added to the cells at 100 and 125 μM respectively and the cells were incubated for 5 min at 37°C before addition of the CypHer5e labeled latex beads.
