Figure 1: Jasmonic acid is synthesized from fatty acid linolenic acid. Lipoxygenase, allene oxide synthase, allene oxide cyclase are the key enzymes of jasmonate biosynthesis in chloroplast, and they form oxo-phytodienoic acid. Oxo-phytodienoic acid is transported to peroxisome. Reduction of cyclopentanone ring of oxo-phytodienoic acid is catalyzed by peroxisomal oxo-phytodienoic acid reductase enzyme. Three cycles of ß-oxidation occur to give finally jasmonic acid
