Ethanol abstinence significantly decreased (P < 0.001) time spend in open arm compared with ethanol-treated animals. Shankhpushpi treatment to abstinent animals significantly (100 mg/kg, P < 0.01 and 200 mg/kg, P < 0.001) increased time spend in open arm compared with abstinent animals. Diazepam also significantly increased time spend in open arm over abstinent and ethanol-treated groups (P < 0.001). Animals treated with shankhpushpi in the presence of GABAA blocker spent significantly less time in the open arm (P < 0.001) compared with abstinent animals.
